A Grade Chevron Amethyst Tower

Here I have turned some large Chevron Amethyst tumbles into uprights or towers. Why? Because I believe some crystal collections need some lovely height added. Yes you can buy obelisks and towers, but they are “masculine” on look. So to bring in the feminine, I have been converting some organic shaped including pebbles into cut base uprights. This allows them to be more effective as the keystone in a grid.

It is fun to experience a little bit of shaping a crystal by going to the local lapidary club. Also I like creating something not available anywhere else. However I am not as skilled the Indians, Brazilians and Chinese.

Benefits of Chevron Amethyst Upright

I find this crystal is particular good for those people who tend to run on adrenalin as it slows/calms them down by helping them to come out of the busy mind and back to connecting to their body and the Earth. The purple of these uprights is an amazing colour – nice Royal Purple contrasting with the pure white. They display the wonderful banding which is why this is also known as banded amethyst. They are very good quality and show how in any crystal there are inclusions and gaps due to the way crystals grow like trees.

Cacoxenite in Quartz

Beautiful tufts / strands of gold, yellow and brown - often fanning. Chlorite in Quartz

Green spots and splashes in clear quartz. Most often from Brazil. Emerald green colour coated all over a quartz cluster is painted quartz from China - the quartz is usually a milky quartz that wouldn't have sold easily.

Geological Information for Amethyst

A member of the quartz family with iron in its crystal lattice being naturally irradiated to FE4+ creating purple colour, hence why the colour is uneven.

• As the colour of amethyst is caused by iron-based colour centres, iron minerals are often companions of amethyst. Of those three, goethite, lepidocrocite, and hematite frequently occur as inclusions. If large amounts of FE3+ and FE4+ both exist in a piece you have citrine + amethyst which is called Ametrine.
• Amethyst comes in some wonderful structures:
  • points and double terminators;
  • caves (and broken in to clusters)
    • Amethyst is grows with a matrix of agate or basalt.
  • clusters like clear quartz,
  • elestials;
  • fairy amethyst (very small druzy crystals emerging from the side of the main point);
  • spirit amethyst (side points are more visible to the naked eye);
  • cactus or pineapple amethyst (like spirit amethyst but the side points are quite large e.g.5-20% of the size of the main termination);
  • flowers and angel wings,
  • rosettes
  • layered with chevron patterning.

Auralite-23

• Not to be confused with geological mineral Auralite which has little information about it either. Auralite-23 is a trademark of Robert Simmons and geologists refute all the information being given in this section by the "channelling" of Robert. They believe it to just be an amethyst variation.
• "Scientifically proven as the world's oldest crystal - developed more than 1.5 billion years ago." Note: I personally disagree with this assertion also.
