• Mohs: 3.5 - 4.5
• Natural non-crystal form looks like the human brain - brown lines through botryoidal white/cream.
• Most non crystal specimens (e.g. tumbles and jewellery) are from Guangdong China.

• Group member of: Borates
• Colour: Colourless, white
• Mohs: 3.5
• Natural non-crystal form is massive - i.e. bg lumps of rough white with thin black lines.
• Tumbles and jewellery are from Guangdong China or USA.
• Crystals of howlite are rare.

Special Notes

• Both are often dyed to imitate turquoise, chrysocolla, sugilite and other rarer minerals.
• Some stores now call a blue-green turquoise-like version turquenite (looks like turquoise) or chryso howlite (looks like chrysocolla).
• Others still mislabel them as turquoise.
