New to our range are Lapis Lazuli Necklaces strung 6 mm beads and a sterling silver catch. We had them previously as 8 mm with metal parrot clasps. This blue is lazulite, white is calcite, and the gold is pyrite. Yes, it is real 925 sterling silver but unfortunately due to the shape and size there is no stamp. I chose the loop and stick clasp as many of my buyers cannot manage the parrot and lobster clasps. It also makes a nice feature if you place it around to the front giving you two different necklace “looks”.

There will be certain pendants with large jump rings that can actually be strung on this 6 mm bead necklace for a third “look”.

This crystal cleanses on a mental level by healing outdated thoughts and mental patterns. Therefore, it facilitates a more positive outlook on life. Also said to alleviate insomnia and vertigo and overcome depression. It is said to boosts the immune system, as well as, helping reduce headaches and pain. There was little difference in my buy price between the silver and metal clasp as most cost was the stringing of the beads. So, I thought most of you would like the classier silver for just a few dollars more. Also consider teaming it up with a bracelet.

And as the lapis lazuli necklaces all look the same, we will intuit the best one. When they arrive, they may sit a little crunched, so give the piece a gentle stretch and as it sits against the warmth of you neck it should relax into the best shape. If buying for another person – let them know this.

General Identification

Type: Rock but considered a semi-precious gemstone
Class: Metamorphic
Mohs Hardness: 5 - 5.5
Formula: mixture of minerals with lazurite as the main constituent.
Lustre / Diaphaneity: Opaque, Dull
Colour: Blue, mottled with white calcite and brassy pyrite

Special Notes

Most lapis lazuli also contains sodalite (blue), and pyrite (metallic yellow) and sometimes other minerals.
Lower grades will have calcite (white) in increasing amounts relative to the sodalite
Most still comes from Afghanistan
- where it has been mined for over 6000 years.
Chile is another strong source but not often available in Australia.
Often lapis lazuli is coloured to make it look a higher grade.
- The dye over time goes to a black-blue colour.
Can be ground into powder and made into ultramarine
- used by some of the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque period,
Mainly used for jewellery, carvings, boxes, mosaics, ornaments, small statues, and vases.
