Midnight Lace Obsidian Slice

$66.00

If you love smoky quartz or obsidian you will be a firm fan of Midnight Lace Obsidian slice! I took one photo close up to try an capture the banding being so fine that it was as if that part of the crystal was woven fabric. As it is very sharp I would not recommend for young children.

There was no way I was wandering past a new seller we discovered of Midnight Lace Obsidian slices.

I was instantly in love with this amazing crystal which I’ve never seen before anywhere. You will enjoy the play of light across the light and dark smoky quartz bands. Some bands can be almost clear – some almost black depending on the piece. Being banded every piece is unique.

Laboratory testing states “that this stone consists of: aluminium, silicon, potassium, calcium, titanium, manganese, iron, rubidium, strontium and zirconium”. Actually just found Melody’s “Love is in the Earth” mentioning a USA version – so she has a write up on it.

Healing Properties of Midnight Lace Obsidian

The banding in the obsidian gives it Phantom properties so great to move through the layers of blocks (soul and ancestral) while seeing the beauty of the individual and collective experiences that created much growth through learning to work with challenges in new ways. Obsidian is already great for drawing out the hidden for resolution but this obsidian is really gentle so I doubt that there will be difficulty wearing this pendant for the whole day (unlike black obsidian!). More about obsidian.

We have another midnight lace obsidian slab here. Team it up with an acrylic or metal stand.

This is a protection stone but from the point of view of protecting you from picking up other people's thoughts if you are open psychically to that method of receiving. If you need to protect from people's emotions - tourmaline If you work with people with mental problem e.g. bi-polar, schizophrenia, ... then black onyx-agate. Adds the energy of warrior - physical warrior (to help more embracing of the masculine courage, strength, protective nature) and the spiritual warrior (to help empower self to being true to one's needs walking the spiritual path, stepping up to spiritual work without being taken down by others opinions)

Geological Information

Geological Information of Obsidian Family
  • Naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock which cools too quick to create crystals bigger than micro.
General Identification
  • Type: Rock
  • Class: n/a - high silica content
  • Member of Group: Chrysoberyl
  • Mohs Hardness: 5 - 6
  • Crystal Habit: Amorphous
  • Lustre / Diaphaneity: Translucent, Vitreous, Glassy
  • Colour: black, bluish, mahogany, golden, peacock, etc. - the colors due largely to refraction by microscopic bubbles (and microscopic mineral inclusions such as magnetite in "Rainbow Obsidian").
  • Snowflake obsidian, formed through the inclusion of cristobalite crystals.
  • Mahogany obsidian is a combination of red brown and black colours due to magnetite or haematite oxidising within the Obsidian.
  • Apache tears are small rounded obsidian nuggets often embedded within a grayish-white perlite matrix.
Obsidian in green, blue, aquamarine/aqua, peach, purple, yellow
  • The real green obsidian from Middle East ran out some years ago.
  • What is sold on market is actually coloured man-made glass, often made in Indonesia.
    • some vendors sell as "we are not sure if real" if you question them but I have found no positive proof that there is natural supply over the ten year.
    • Helenite obsidian is at least melted down ask from Mt St Helens, USA.
      • The silica, aluminium, iron, and trace amounts of chromium and copper present in the rocks and ash in the area, combined with the heat of the torches, transformed the volcanic particles into a compound
  • Appearance: Transparent
  • Aquamarine obsidian is now being sold as just aquamarine.
Special Notes
  • Obsidian is hard and brittle and therefore fractures with very sharp edges.
    • In the past it was used to manufacture cutting, piercing tools and arrowheads.
  • Obsidian is also used for ornamental purposes and as jewellery.
    • It presents a different appearance depending on how it is cut: in one direction it is jet black, while in another it is glistening gray.
  • The first known archaeological evidence of usage was 700,000 BCE.
  • Rainbow usually needs careful cutting to bring out the multi coloured layers.
  • Variations where the colours are many but the layering is not obvious may be called velvet obsidian.
