Rose Quartz Rough – AB

These Brazilian and Madagascan Rose Quartz Roughs or chunks are 100% natural rose quartz crystals showing a soft pink colour.

• Some will typically have orange streaks through it where iron didn’t quite integrate into the quartz enough, and some have clay inclusions. I called them AB to distinguish from A/AA grades.
• These chunks are NOT coloured nor man-made.
• A grade have little of either and are better colour and you can buy them if you click here.

These chunk sizes are a comfortable hand hold but a bit heavy for carrying in a bag. Weights are +/- 5%. Dimensions are guide. I have included an inside photograph (never as nice as outside) taken of the 400g .. you can see the colour variation in the pinks.

You can buy these rose quartz roughs which are best known for unconditional love. But in my experience is that it is to remind us love goes both ways: to give and to receive. Special Notes

• It most often grows in masses - never even finding a leading edge of crystal points.
• Occasionally found in crystal cluster form and was officially given own name of Pink Quartz but that has now gone.
• Rose quartz occurs in pegmatites - it forms at very high temperatures, between 400 and 700 degrees Centigrade.
• The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese, in the material.
  • Recent X-ray diffraction studies suggest that the color is due to thin microscopic fibers of possibly dumortierite within the quartz.
• "Star" Rose Quartz has microscopic rutile needles which produces an asterism in transmitted light.
• The crystalline form in elestial in form was originally not called rose quartz and was called Pink Quartz.
  • Often over grew smoky quartz.
  • Found to leach very fast in UV light!
  • Synthetic versions exist.
  • These days all forms are called Rose Quartz.
• Irradiation may cause the formation of smoky quartz color centers and add a gray tone.
