An amazing smoky quartz flame with such lovely misting and possibly a few rutile needles that even I want to keep it. But you also will want to pull it from the stand and hold it while it does its magic. The shape is so delightfully unusual and the ones we sold at the shops have everyone stroking it in calming enjoyment.

Geological Identification

It is a brown or grey coloured variety of Quartz.
The smoky colour results from free silicon and aluminium naturally irradiated.

Special Notes

Most people know the brown variety. But geologically there is also grey smoky quartz
Unfortunately more and more quartz is being artificially gamma irradiated. You will only know by being suspicious as to the mine it came from or the matrix of minerals with it e.g. be careful of cheap smoky quartz from the USA or China - usually looks unusually dark and opaque. 2018 update
- Even Brazil is now radiating their smoky quartz and doing a good job of it. Graham and I couldn't tell the difference but thankfully the suppliers were honest and we avoided getting caught.
- Customer advised that he bought irradiated smoky quartz and that the colour faded within a year.
Note: Morian Quartz is a very dark natural quartz.
