This Sodalite Pendant has a good stone – mid to dark blue with streaks of white and black. 100% Brazilian through and through. A light, relatively hard yet fragile mineral, sodalite is named after its sodium content.

General Identification

Na₄(Si₃Al₃)O₁₂Cl
- Some K substitutes for Na in the grey-white Afghan sodalites.
Colours: Usually blue, it can be grey, yellow, green, or pink and is often mottled with white veins or patches.
Lustre: Vitreous, Greasy
Mohs Hardness: 5½ - 6
Crystal System: Isometric

Special Notes

Similar to lazurite and lapis lazuli, sodalite rarely contains pyrite and its blue colour is more like traditional royal blue rather than ultramarine.
Interesting variety Hackmanite is an important variety of sodalite exhibiting tenebrescence.
