This unusual specimen is a fossil clam with calcite inside found in a gravel mine in the USA. You can hear more of the story in the video. This is a stunning piece of fossilisation and crystallisation. I bought three and this was the best grade of them and double the price. The other two are sold now.
The prospector who sold it was only able to extract a small number during the few weeks the mine allowed prospectors inside to collect, and he classified them according to rarity, quality and size.
The details are:
- Calcite replacing Mercenaria permagna (Flour, Phos Yellow-green SW/LW)
- Sham Rock and Shell Pit (Rucks’ Pit)
- Okeechobee County, Florida, USA
- Pliocene – Pleistocene
I will just let the photos and video win you over. You can see it at the shop once it arrives in April ’23.
As free shipping does not allow you to select delivery insurance I have added my $30 cost to the price.
Enjoy this amazing fossil clam with calcite specimen.
