Fossilised Clam with Calcite

This unusual specimen is a fossilised clam with calcite inside found in a gravel mine in the USA. You can hear more of the story in the video (click here). This is a stunning piece of fossilisation and crystallisation. I bought three and this was the best grade of them and double the price. The other two are sold now.

The prospector who sold it was only able to extract a small number during the few weeks the mine allowed prospectors inside to collect. He classified them according to rarity, quality and size. This is rare and unique.

• Now extinct, the ammonite mollusk was a shelled cephalopod, usually appearing in a coiled, spiral shape . This fossilized sea creatures which appeared 435 million years ago.
• Also known as "shaligram shila" in India.
