Pietersite Tumble

The photo shows medium sized Pietersite tumbles, we are now selling smaller – most are around the size of the smallest in the photo. This group of crystals form part of the tiger’s eye / tiger iron family.

Pietersite Tumbled Stones Meaning

If people research it, most don’t want to really express their emotions abruptly to others. But it does have a loyal following among those who know this expression is an important step for healing all involved.

This crystal is a variety of chalcedony that is embedded with fibers of amphibole minerals. These are sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron and aluminum. Some tumbles seem to show the flash of tiger’s eye.

These pietersite tumbles are unlikely to be in the collection of a serious collector of crystals, so they make a great birthday gift.

Tiger Iron

• Composition: Jasper + Hematite + Tiger's Eye - more geological information.
• Australia has the best examples.
• Also from South Africa but not as nice and often not all three elements showing.

Tiger's Eye

• Chatoyant - due to asbestos fibres captured in quartz
• Part of Quartz family - more geological information.
• Best quality is from South Africa.
• Australia has banded tiger's eye which really is tiger iron with lots of tiger's eye.
• Colours - Golden (most common) plus:
  • Red Tiger's Eye - some natural if you can see golden too but mostly man-heated golden tiger's eye
  • Blue Tiger's Eye - dark blue and mostly inter-mixed with golden colour
• Artificially coloured tiger's eye through heating to different levels:
  • soft green, dark blue
• Some will be glass. Hints that synthetic are:
  • Shape is: ball or pyramid
  • Colour is: mid to dark green, pink, mid blues, yellow, orange, white, ..
• Where the blue colour is surrounded by the golden colour forming an eye like pattern or shape - gets the name of "falcon's eye" or "hawke's eye"

Pietersite

• Mainly from Namibia
• Those with good blue colour in with the browns are now hard to get as from China
  • which closed mine when 4 Dam project implemented and flooded it.
