Rose Quartz Heart – Large

We enjoyed a new batch of crystals, and this lovely large Rose Quartz heart was among them. This is a big handful! We handpicked the Madagascan supplier’s range to ensure we got only great ones!

This crystal has a lovely baby-pink colour. And the natural lines and rainbows show it is not man-made (yes, they do exist). There is natural inclusion at the top possibly some iron. Unfortunately, the full sun slightly bleaching the colour, and being translucent it has gone to more purple as the green grass colours the pink.

I don’t promote this crystal as unconditional love. That’s too big a concept, too unattainable for most. But as a stone that reminds you about creating happy, loving and supporting relationships including towards elf. And that becomes something we all feel we can achieve.

Special Notes

• It most often grows in masses - never even finding a leading edge of crystal points.
• Occasionally found in crystal cluster form and was officially given own name of Pink Quartz but that has now gone.
• Rose quartz occurs in pegmatites - it forms at very high temperatures, between 400 and 700 degrees Centigrade.
• The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese, in the material.
  • Recent X-ray diffraction studies suggest that the color is due to thin microscopic fibers of possibly dumortierite within the quartz.
• "Star" Rose Quartz has microscopic rutile needles which produces an asterism in transmitted light.
• The crystalline form in elestial in form was originally not called rose quartz and was called Pink Quartz.
  • Often over grew smoky quartz.
  • Found to leach very fast in UV light!
  • Synthetic versions exist.
