This is a very grey Smoky Phantom Tower which geologically is called smoky quartz. You can see phantom lines, penetrating crystals and it has a rare Dow formation of the faces. This means 3-7-3-7-3-7 edge face configuration. At one stage I always found these master crystals easily in a whole batch of crystals. It will not appeal to the decorative buyer but will call to the person who loves the quirky and feels the shamanic power of this piece. As it is not considered high grade it does mean you get a large generator for a lot less. Enjoy the video too.

Geological Identification

It is a brown or grey coloured variety of Quartz.
The smoky colour results from free silicon and aluminium naturally irradiated.

Special Notes

Most people know the brown variety. But geologically there is also grey smoky quartz
Unfortunately more and more quartz is being artificially gamma irradiated. You will only know by being suspicious as to the mine it came from or the matrix of minerals with it e.g. be careful of cheap smoky quartz from the USA or China - usually looks unusually dark and opaque. 2018 update
- Even Brazil is now radiating their smoky quartz and doing a good job of it. Graham and I couldn't tell the difference but thankfully the suppliers were honest and we avoided getting caught.
- Customer advised that he bought irradiated smoky quartz and that the colour faded within a year.
Note: Morian Quartz is a very dark natural quartz.
